Since I was a kid I was kinda fascinated by things that scared me. Monsters, ghosts, Boogeyman...sure, they scared the hell out of me, but I also loved them for it, and that love for horror and things that go bump in the night has only grown with me.
As far as WoodFolk, I think it all started with a little red Radio Flyer wagon.
It belonged to my wife, and she had held on to it since she was a toddler, which is already pretty impressive to me. One day while cleaning out the garage, I rescued it from a pile of detritus and set it aside. This little wagon was decades old and had seen some better days, but I thought I could put some life back into it.
The project seemed simple enough, though my wagon-restoration knowledge probably wasn't up to code. Within a week or so, I had that little thing looking like a catalogue model for Radio Flyer.
After that I started purposefully looking around for anything else that needed fixin' or buildin', and finally making the leap to investing my time and thought into my own creations.
Since then, I've brought to life a multitude of creations, finding ways to blend my love of fabrication and woodworking in with my longtime love of monsters and madmen.
Not everything I make comes from the dark side, it's pretty much whatever I can think, I figure I can make. Or, I'll at least give it a good try. But my brain will always have a tendency to skew towards the things that scared me as a kid, and have almost become friends of mine by now.
Basically, I make things that I think are cool and want for myself, but I'm open to sharing.
I hope there's something around here that speaks to you, too. If so, take it home with you. Love it. Nurture it.
Just don't feed it after midnight.
Making Eerie Beautiful,
